Part 3A
What significant information did I learn about these interviews?
I learned many signifigant facts about the people being interviewed. After reading several interviews I found many of the workers expalined they did hard work but it was what they were born to do. In a interview with Alica Caudle a mill worker, he said, "Law, I reckon I was born to work in a mill." Later in his interview Alica goes on to talk about the hard work he put in at the age of ten by running the spinners and spoolind the thread. He knew nothing elese but working because this is what his parents have taught him to do, he was born into it. (http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/wpaintro/alice.html). I have also noticed that in some interviews, such as Bernice, had to take on jobs in order to pay for rent or even food. Bernice talked about,"When my husband, who was a pullman porter, ran off and left me with a sixty-dollar-a-month apartment on my hands and no job, I soon learned, like everyone else, to rent my rooms out an' throw these Saturday get togethers. I had two roomers, a colored boy and white girl name Leroy and Hazel, who first gave me the idea. They offered to run the parties for me if we'd split fifty-fifty. I had nothing to lose, so that's how we started." (http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/wpaintro/bernice.html). As several people had to do, they had to take on a job that they did not paticuraly like in order to support themselves and their children. After listening to several interveiws, I learned that this event happened very oftern in this time period.Even thought there were common trends within these intreveiws
